Two prison officers killed in ambush as suspected drug boss escapes
Dad-of-two and soon-to-be father among victims
Two police officers have been killed in an ambush on a prison van transporting a violent gang boss.
Fabrice Moelle, 52, a father of two, and Arnaud Garcia, 35, whose wife was five months pregnant, were executed with a machine gun on Tuesday.
Three other officers were seriously injured in the attack, which took place in the southern French city of Valence.
The officers were transporting a suspected drug boss nicknamed "The Fly" to court when their van was ambushed by a group of armed men.
"The Fly" escaped in the chaos that followed.
A nationwide manhunt is now underway to find him.
The killings have shocked France and prompted calls for tougher sentences for criminals.
