Government Announces Critical Minerals Incentive Programs

Encouraging Development in Saskatchewan

The provincial government of Saskatchewan has announced the launch of two new incentive programs aimed at promoting the development of critical minerals in the province. This move comes as part of a broader effort to support the growth of a clean energy value chain in Canada.

Incentivizing Innovation

The Saskatchewan government's new incentive programs will provide funding and other support to companies involved in the exploration, extraction, and processing of critical minerals. These minerals, which include lithium, cobalt, and nickel, are essential components of many modern technologies, including electric vehicles and renewable energy systems.

The programs are part of the province's Critical Minerals Strategy, which was launched in 2022. The strategy aims to position Saskatchewan as a global leader in the production and supply of critical minerals, supporting economic growth and job creation.

The federal government has also allocated $500 million to the Natural Resources Investments Fund (NRIF) to support the development of critical minerals projects across Canada. This funding will be used to provide loans, equity investments, and co-funding for projects that support the NRIF's goals.

The combined effect of these provincial and federal initiatives is expected to attract significant investment in the critical minerals sector in Saskatchewan. This investment will help to create jobs, boost economic activity, and support the development of a clean energy value chain in Canada.
